Mastodon is awesome, but keeping up with threads on it vs something like email or usenet is just too challenging.
@emacsen Are there any ActivityPub projects that are more focused on longer-form posts and threaded discussions (that are also in active use)?
@setthemfree Not that I know of, but that's a function of the application, rather than the protocol.
@emacsen I guess I need to research Writefreely and Plume. I wonder how long-form (500+ chars) posts "foreign" to Mastodon would be displayed by Mastodon. I also quite miss the hyperlink as a first-class citizen here. https://medium.com/matter/the-web-we-have-to-save-2eb1fe15a426
@emacsen Yeah, it's a very ephemeral medium. When I'm tuned in, I'm there, but if I look away for a bit, it's like a river and I lose my place in the stream. I definitely hear you there, but I've had some amazing conversations, albeit brief ones, on here.
Yeah, I'd like a UX that's much more like Usenet clients. One issue there is the difference in the social expectations of replies, but I think that can be negotiated with group implementations
