I had the exact same thought as this person... why don't browsers respect /etc/services ports.

@emacsen This makes sense to me because OP is making an http request still, just over a port that's reserved for another protocol. Protocol should be in the scheme of the URI:


This still saves OP from having to memorize port numbers


I was thinking more along the lines if I have something like syncthing running on 8123
