Trying to look for alternatives to Ben and Jerry's, it turns out Hagen Daas' original founder gave money to the JDL, an anti-arab group, for years.

The company hasn't been owned by him for a long time, but still, all I want is some fucking ice cream!

I know I'm joking around but I'm seriously upset about all this.

It's fucking ice cream people! ICE CREAM. Sell it to everyone. Stop being insane. Stop funding terrorist groups, whether it's Arab terrorism or Jewish terrorism. Just sell the fucking ice cream to everyone.

STOP MAKING ME CRAZY!

@emacsen that's sort of the point, isn't it? Ben/Jerry think it has gotten bad enough that they need to make a point.

Or it's capitalism and they think they'll make more money by taking this stance than selling ice cream in Israel.

That "it has gotten so bad" - what is "it"? And what is the point?

> Or it's capitalism and they think they'll make more money by taking this stance than selling ice cream in Israel.

But not China, after all where there are serious human rights atrocities including concentration camps.

@emacsen their point, not saying I agree or disagree, seems to be that Israel is unfairly occupying territory.

China is a whataboutism, there are lots of bad things happening in the world. Do B&J even sell in China? I have no idea.

Let me explain to you why China is not whataboutism, and it's very simple.

If the ONLY group or country you go after is Israel, then you don't give two patoots about human rights, or even Muslims, you only care about Jews, and I've never seen anyone who is part of BDS who boycots any other groups. That's just antisemitism, period.

As for "They can do what they want as a company because they're making a point they feel is right- I don't see many people saying that about Chick Fillet, or other companies who spread hateful messages or use their money to hurt groups.

Israelis have the right to exist. If anyone disagrees with that sentiment, please just unfollow me.

@emacsen chicfila has caught plenty of public flack for being anti-lgbt and more recently for making donations to politicians who supported the insurrection. Personally I feel like intertwining one's religion with chicken sandwiches is more than silly, but to each their own, I suppose.

Is there any difference between "Israelis have the right to exist" and "Israelis aren't getting ice cream"? I feel like you made a bit of a leap.

@emacsen
Buy both, mix them together 😈

@emacsen recommend finding a local ice cream shop to support, they will usually sell you tubs and it tastes 1,000 times better

@fraggle

In actuality I don't really eat ice cream, as I'm trying to lose weight and I don't eat carbs.

It's mostly hyperbolic.
